The Admiral Theatre was built in 1928 as a vaudeville venue. After going broke in the 1950s, it was shuttered for more than a decade, finally reopening in May 1969 with the intention of showing cartoons. The cartoon theme lasted a month. The Admiral was making only $30 a day trying to attract youngsters, so it turned to a more lucrative form of entertainment--pornography. The owners began showing X-rated movies and hosting personal appearances by such porn legends as Linda Lovelace, Marilyn Chambers and Seka. Now that the emphasis in "adult entertainment" has shifted from films to stripping, the Admiral features a nightly Las Vegas-style revue favored by conventioneers and O'Hare visitors, with 100 table dancers. The theater also has a boutique that sells X-rated videos, sex toys and one-hand magazines.

Hours: Showroom is open noon-7 p.m. and 8 p.m.-4 a.m. Friday and Saturday; 8 p.m.-4 a.m. Sunday; and noon-7 p.m. and 8 p.m.-3 a.m. Monday through Thursday. Video arcade is open 24 hours, seven days a week
